DAY 1

Welcome to Sri Lanka!

Your honeymoon begins in Colombo. A driver meets you at the airport and takes you to the Galle Face Hotel, the grand colonial hotel on the city's seafront, where your room looks out over the Indian Ocean. This evening you sit down to a welcome dinner of Sri Lankan dishes, the first taste of the island you are about to cross.

DAY 2

Dambulla Cave Temple

Drive north into the Cultural Triangle, stopping to climb to Athugala Temple on Elephant Rock for a view across the plains. After lunch you explore the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO site whose five caves are painted floor to ceiling around their Buddha statues. Tonight you check in to Heritance Kandalama, Geoffrey Bawa's hotel built into the jungle beside a lake.

DAY 3

Sigiriya Lion Rock

Set out early for Sigiriya, the fifth-century rock fortress that rises straight out of the forest. Climb past the frescoes and the giant lion's paws to the summit, then rest at the hotel through the heat of the day. Late in the afternoon, walk up neighbouring Pidurangala Rock to watch the sun set behind Sigiriya.

A Slow Morning at Kandalama

Nothing is planned today. Have a long breakfast looking over Kandalama Lake, swim in the infinity pool that seems to run into the jungle, or watch for monkeys and birds from your balcony.

Luxury in the Wild at Yala

Travel south to Yala and Uga Chena Huts, where your cabin has its own plunge pool on the edge of the national park. From here your stay is all-inclusive, with drinks on the house, so settle in by the pool before a buffet dinner under the stars.

Yala Jeep Safari

Head into Yala National Park by jeep in the early morning, when leopards, elephants and sloth bears are most likely to be seen. Return for a late breakfast and a lazy afternoon by your pool, then take a sundowner and canapes beside a quiet lagoon before dinner.

Beach Days in Weligama

After breakfast, drive west along the coast to Weligama, a curve of golden sand known for its surf and its fishing boats. Settle in to Sitara Weligama and spend the rest of the day by the pool or on the beach.

Whale Watching

Head out to sea this morning in search of blue whales, which gather off this coast for much of the year, often with dolphins alongside. The afternoon is free for a surf lesson, snorkelling with turtles or simply the beach.

Sunset at Coconut Tree Hill

Spend the day at your own pace, then take a short drive to Coconut Tree Hill in Mirissa, a headland of leaning palms above the sea. Stay for the sunset before heading back for your last night on the south coast.

Back to Colombo

Enjoy a final morning on the beach, then drive back to Colombo and check in to a suite at Residence on Park Street, a restored colonial residence in the city. The evening is yours.

Fly to the Maldives

Transfer to the airport for the short flight across the Indian Ocean to Malé. From there a seaplane carries you over the atolls to Dhigali in Raa Atoll, where your Water Villa sits on stilts above the lagoon. Your stay is all-inclusive, from the first drink on arrival to the last.
