Fly south to Da Nang this morning and drive half an hour to Hoi An, an old riverside trading port whose centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. River Town Hoi An is home for the next four nights, in a room looking over the pool and the Thu Bon River. When the light fades, walk into the old town as its silk lanterns are lit.

Cycle out past the rice paddies to Tra Que, a village that has grown herbs for Hoi An's kitchens for generations. A farming family shows you how the beds are worked, then helps you cook a Vietnamese lunch from what you picked. A foot massage follows, and then an easy ride back to the hotel.

A free day in Hoi An. Have something made to measure by one of the town's tailors, take a sampan along the river, wander the old merchant houses by the Japanese Covered Bridge, or stay by the pool. In the evening, set a paper lantern floating on the river together.

Take the morning slowly, then cycle through quiet lanes to An Bang Beach, a long stretch of soft sand lined with small seafood restaurants. Swim, rest under an umbrella and stay for lunch by the sea before riding back for your last night in Vietnam.

After breakfast, transfer to Da Nang Airport for the flight to Bangkok, less than two hours. You are met on arrival and taken to Praya Palazzo, a restored Italianate mansion on the Chao Phraya River that you reach by the hotel's own boat. At 6pm, a Thai welcome dinner is served at the hotel to mark the start of the second half of your honeymoon.

A tuk-tuk collects you after breakfast for a morning among Bangkok's great temples. With a local guide you see the golden reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, then take the ferry across the river to Wat Arun and its spire covered in porcelain. The afternoon is free for the hotel pool, a Thai massage or the city's markets.

Fly south to Phuket this morning and transfer to Bandara Villas on Cape Panwa. Your villa has its own pool and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over Ao Yon Bay, and the rest of the day is for settling in.

In the afternoon a boat takes you out to Coral Island for snorkelling and time on the sand. Then a catamaran carries you across the Andaman Sea as the sun sets, with a Thai dinner served on board.

This morning breakfast is served on a tray floating in your own pool. Nothing else is planned: spend the day at the villa, walk down to the beach, or book a spa treatment for two.

A speedboat takes you from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi and SAii Phi Phi Island Village, on the quieter northern side of the island. The resort has its own 800-metre beach on Loh Ba Gao Bay, backed by coconut palms. The afternoon is yours on the sand and in the clear, warm water.

Board a private longtail boat for a day on the water around Phi Phi. Snorkel over coral reefs busy with tropical fish, swim in sheltered bays and stop at a quiet beach before you head back to the resort.

Your last full day is completely free. Lie on the beach, swim, take a kayak out on the bay or book a massage by the sea, then find a table by the water for your final dinner of the trip.

After breakfast, check out and travel back to Phuket by speedboat and car for your flight home. Your honeymoon ends at Phuket Airport, with Vietnam and Thailand behind you.
